Group Therapy

It’s rare that our struggles occur in a vacuum. In our marriage, in our family, with our friends, or even with our co-workers, life happens with others. And thus, often the road to healing occurs with others as well.

Group is different and just as effective as individual therapy. Where individual therapy helps us understand, group helps us to experience. Group therapy provides a microcosm of our lives, and how we find ourselves stuck. The magic happens in the opportunity to experiment with new ways of relating, helping us to learn to grow deep, meaningful, and fulfilling relationships with others, and transform the way we live and connect.

I have developed a personal and professional passion for group therapy. To learn more about why I hold group so dear please find some important resources about group experience, groups I run, and my training as a group therapist below.

  • The groups I run are all called Interpersonal Process Groups.

This means that what brings people to my groups is interest and desire in further understanding and growing in how we relate to others. And the goal of the group is to do this in what is called the “here and now” process, or rather, understand ourselves in relation to others as we relate to the other members in the group.

    Group Times:

Wednesday 7:15am-8:30am: Mens interpersonal process group. (Run with Dr. Joseph Schmidt)

  • Group can be difficult to describe without experiencing it.

However, below are some things that may help to describe the experience.

  • Many therapists learn to run groups on their own while some, including myself, seek out specialized training.

Below are some of the ways in which I have specialized in group therapy over my career.

The act of revealing oneself fully to another and still being accepted may be the major vehicle of therapeutic help.
